Additional personnel includes: Tolanda Fields (vocals); Kevin Perez (talk box, trumpet, keyboards, Hammond B-3 organ, drum programming); Lady Mecca (rap); Robert Palmer, Randy Ryan (various instruments); Rich Keller (guitar, trombone); Jeremy James, Marlon McClain, Michael Herring (guitar); W. Sanford Allen, Richard R. Hennick, Alfred Brown, Max Ellen, Jeanne M. LaBlanc, Richard Locker, Gerald Tarack, Regis Landioro (strings); Mark Johnson, Pat Hall, Andy Gravish (horns); Mark South (Fender Rhodes, Hammond B-3 organ, keyboards drum programming); Carlos McKinney (keyboards, bass); Shawn McKenzie (drums, drum programming); India (background vocals). Producers include: Mark South, Robert Palmer, Carlos McKinney, Shawn McKenzie, Denzil Foster. Engineers include: Steve Counter, Alex Nesmith, Carlos McKinney. The three young ladies who make up the contemporary R&B vocal trio Divine all have distinctive styles, but they're able to combine their individual talents for a group sound that's greater than the sum of its parts. The production and arrangements are state-of-the-art; syncopated drum loops, funky bass lines and spare keyboard and guitar lines setting a backdrop for emotive, melisma-laden vocals. As sensual as the voices of these three artists are, its only natural that most of the songs should be concerned with desire, both romantic ("Never Thought) and carnal ("Good 'N Plenty"). To round things out, Divine also tackles "One More Try," the slow soul burner that George Michael made famous on his FAITH album. | |

| ...sugary trio Divine incorporate R&B flavor with acute pop sensibilities. THese teenagers don't have an outstanding lead vocalist but make up for it with their perfect, euphonious harmonies... Vibe (01/01/1999) | |
