This high quality, highly detailed, intermediate level, Korsholm III Model is Brand New, fully assembled and ready for display (not a kit).

This DK Korsholm III Ferry Boat Model was specially designed & built by the plank on frame method (joining multiple small pieces of wood like Rosewood, Mahogany, Teak and other exotic tropical wood together on the hull). The steam ship model is built exactly to scale and painted as the original Korsholm III was with many details. The task required skillful craftsmen hundreds of hours to accomplish.

The Korsholm III was originally built by the Oskarshamn Shipyard Ltd, Oskarshamn and launched as the "S/S Oland" in 1931 in Sweden for the Royal Mail General Board in Stockholm. She was put into service as a passenger/car ferry.

She was bought from Sweden in 1958 and renamed the Korsholm III, also at this time the triple steam engine was replaced with 2 Volvo Penta diesel engines, this gave her a top speed of 11 knots. After rebuilding the Korsholm III could carry 354 passengers and 10 cars. She was but back into service sailing between Vasa, Finland and Umea, Sweden.

In 1967 the Korsholm III was sold to the Finnish Navy, was rebuilt as a staff ship and renamed the Korsholm. In 1975 she was transfered to the Finnish Maritime Authority and used for hydrography (the measurement and description of navigable waters).

Then in 1986 she is sold to "Cafe Casablanca" in Denmark and was used as a Cafe (dinner) ship in the port of Aarhus. In 1996 she is sold again and finds herself back in Stockland, Sweden. Renamed the "Stockholm" in 2000, she now cruises from Stockholm doing charters and carrying tourists.

The model measures 24" (60.9cm) long from bow to stern. It's a fabulous boat model that will be a conversation piece for any room, office or restaurant.
