This high quality, highly detailed, Expert level, Zipper Hydroplane Model is Brand New, fully assembled and ready for display (not a kit).

This Zipper Hydroplane Runabout Model was specially designed & built by the plank on frame method (joining multiple small pieces of wood like Mahogany and western red cedar wood together on the hull). The speed boat model is built exactly to scale as the original Zipper Hydroplane was with many details. The task required skillful craftsmen hundreds of hours to accomplish.

This model runabout went through a painstaking process of sanding and varnishing to achieve it's mirror finish. The fittings are all brass, the rudders and propellers are also brass. The seats are made of leather. This beautiful Zipper Hydroplane recalls the competition racing of 20’s & 30's era.

The Zipper hydroplane was built in 1934 and was considered a fast hydroplane of category 225. John Hacker designed this wonderful boat for the 125 racing class. Zipper had a 47-horse motor and overall weight of 750 pounds. She illustrates the sobriety and the elegance of the runabouts of competition of the 20s & 30s. Her hull was designed to increase speed and to increase stability in tight turns. Since category 225 racing competition allowed only one person on board, the architect placed the cockpits one behind the other and the aft one could be easily closed up for competitions.

The model measures 39" long from bow to stern. It's a wonderful speed boat model that is sure to be a conversation piece for any room or office.
