First Love
Author:Enna Duval
1848
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Up for your consideration is the original publication of an antique short story taken from a disbound Graham's American Monthly Magazine, published in Philadelphia in 1848 by Samuel D. Patterson & Company. This is an ORIGINAL article -- NOT A REPRINT. It is 6 pages long and has no illustrations.
ENNA DUVAL (1818-1892) was a Philadelphia-born author whose real name was Anne Hampton Brewster. She was one of America's first female foreign correspondents, publishing primarily in Philadelphia, New York, and Boston newspapers. She was a "social outlaw" (as a friend described her) by refusing to marry, by converting to Catholicism, by moving out of her older brother Ben's house in order to live alone, by sueing Ben for complete control over her share of their father's estate, by moving to Rome, and, foremost, by continuing to write through it all, first as a dilettante and then as a self-supporting professional. On her death left to the Library Company of Philadelphia her library, journals, and manuscripts.
The entire piece measures approximately: 6-1/8" x 10" (15,5 x 25,5cm). The paper is tanned with age, most especially around the edges and one vertical side has evidence of this once having been bound in the magazine. It has some minor foxing (little brown age spots). There is some light surface soil and some ink markings on the first page. Otherwise clean and odor-free.
This is an exciting, rare and historically collectible find, and documentation as to its' source will accompany the article.
Again, this is an original, NOT a reproduction. Unconditionally guaranteed to be as described -- full refund if not satisfied.
