Synopsis
For three years in the 1940s, Paul Bowles wrote music criticism for the New York Herald Tribune and later for the journal Modern Music. Utterly without musical training, Bowles was however a composer in his own right, and his writing on the subject is surprisingly knowledgeable. He covered not only classical concerts but calypso, Cuban music, Mexican huapango, and a jam-packed Frank Sinatra appearance in New York full of screaming fans.
