My mother has been making pottery for over thirty years. Because she only wants to keep the experimental pieces, I have volunteered to help her reduce the rest.

All of her glazes are food-safe, and all of us that own her pottery run it through the dishwasher on a very frequent basis. She has warned us not to put it in the microwave, because the high iron content of the clay could possibly harm the microwave. However, some of our relatives have been re-heating leftovers for more than 20 years with no harm to either the microwave or the pottery, so the choice is yours. If it were mine, I would leave the lid off when I micorwaved it, just in case ithe lid heated up faster than the contents of the pot.

This would make an excellent office gift for that hard-to-buy for person. Inoffensive to any culture or religion, and it won't get you written up by Human Resources.
