MARTHA STEWART SIGNATURE BY BERNHARDT
CHINOISERIE TRAY TABLE
This Chinoiserie Tray Table was marketed under the Martha Stewart Signature by Bernhardt label. Bernhardt is an solidly respected old-line high-end furniture brand that has been around for years. You probably have an idea who Martha Stewart is!
The MSS designs are unique to Martha Stewart, and her several Bernhardt furniture lines are named after her homes and former homes in the northeastern United States. Although the "Martha mania" has died down since her stay in West Virginia and the reorientation of her television show to broader, less home-oriented themes, her furniture line remains solidly constructed, with interesting details, by one of the top companies in the United States. The Chinoiserie Tray Table is likely to become an heirloom piece and/or collector's item. Will it end up in the Smithsonian? Hard to say. Could be: Years from now, the name "Martha" will still fascinate.
This particular Chinoiserie Tray Table was purchased circa 2001 from Breuner's Furniture (now defunct) in Pleasant Hill, California, at retail price, plus tax and delivery.
It is currently available for acquisition new at Macy's (usually by special order) and other stores carrying the Martha brand, and has not (as yet) been discontinued.
A quick search will reveal how rare previously owned Martha Stewart Signature pieces are on eBay.

The final picture shows the decorative Chinoiserie detail.
(Chinoiserie refers to Chinese- or Asian-inspired themes in furniture and design, especially lamps and decorative objects, generally involving pagoda-like forms and "Oriental" decorative patterns. Chinoiserie is extremely common in traditional interior design and decorating, but Chinoiserie pieces can also be used to create variety and accent a modern or contemporary home. Much Chinoiserie has Chinese red colored accents in it, and this table is especially versatile due to the accents being in gold rather than Chinese red.)
The table stands 19 3/16" from the floor to very top of tray lip.
The tray top is 28 1/2 by 23 3/4 at the widest points.
Due to the functional size -- not too big, not too small -- the table is a truly great find when used as a small chairside table, a small coffee table, a serving table, or somewhere in the bedroom.
We have noticed NO marks, dents, fading, or destruction of the gold Chinoiserie pattern of any kind. It has been regularly dusted with orange oil and a soft cloth, no other cleaners have been used. Although we believe this table to be in near mint condition, please note that it is a previously owned and used piece and is being sold as such.
