USED HUNTING BINOCULARS PRE WAR LEITZ
I have come up with yet another delightful thoroughly desirable Rare Collectible surprise for you to bid on. This is a a fabulous pair of GERMAN LEITZ ACTION BINOCULARS IN STRENGTH 7x 50 made in Germany by the E. LEITZ WETZLAR MARSEPTIT World Wide Recognized manufacturers of the finest Binoculars, Telescopes, Microscopes, and Cameras made in the world today.
Binoculars in Europe became popular in the mid to late 1980's and Germany became the finest quality manufacturer. The early Binoculars were straight thru viewing called GALILEAN from the late 1890's and were Prismatic and used by the British Army in the Crimean Wars and indeed right up to WW1. In the late 1880's and early 1900,s the German Company founded by CARL ZEISS - ERNST ABBE - IGNAZIO developed a new prism for focus called the ABBE - PORRO PRISM and used today since 1935 in most Binoculars from Germany especially by Carl Zeiss or Eernst Leitz.
We bought this set of Leitz 7x50 Binoculars when we were in Cologn, Germany in the early 1950's and they have been used by us, however infrequently, over these many years. The lenses are coated and clear and clean and have no scratches or bremeshes of any kind. They are clear and focus well. The hinges are stiff but move well. The neck strap in black polished leather with snaps to the glasses is original and firm and shiney with no breaks or repairs. The hard sided cover case is original and shows only minor wear and rubbs. The spring loaded closure is undamaged and firm. There are initials stamped in silver on the hard case. The neck strap is in brown leather to match the case and also shows some wear. The hard case measures approximately 8" tall by 8.5" wide and 3.25 " thick, and the total weight is approximately 3 lbs and 8.0 ozs. The Binoculars stand independently 7.25" tall.
The fitted dimpled black leather cover that is wrapped tightly over the outer surface of the binoculars has become unglued in some areas to the surface and has raised and loosened from the surface and broken away in several areas as I have shown in my photographs. It has not affected the function of the binoculars.
