Up for bids is this fabulous modern table lamp from the 1950's. It is a super sophisticated design, with very luxe materials and craftmanship. It is very much in the Hollywood Regency style of James Mont or Billy Haines, even Jacques Adnet, but I can find no identifying marks. This lamp has a very chic presence, and a wonderful large scale. The design is reminiscent of a drum or a bongo, and is made up of a beautiful thick book-binding quality leather, in a reverse conical shape, with dark brass struts running diagonally around the body. The top and base are taper shaped black lacquered wood. The leather has some beautiful painted detail at the top and bottom of the cone shape, done by hand. The lamp retains its original wiring and brass diffuser cap. The glass diffuser is not present with this lamp, but easily replaced. The lamp is in operating order, but as with all vintage lighting should be checked out by a pro. Dimensions are: 25 1/2" H to the top of the socket; 18 3/4" H to top of black lacquer portion; 7 1/2" Diam. Condition is great on this. Lacquered areas show some wear and a couple of minor dents and dings, but nothing extreme or unexpected. Miraculouly, the leather is in fabulous condition, and has a great low luster to it. I believe this is due to the high quality of the goods. There are no losses, dryness, cracks, scratches, etc. This would make a welcome addition to any Hollywood Regency inspired decorative arts collection!!
