This Norelco "Double Header" shaver was manufactured in 1951 by the Phillips Company in the Netherlands. ("Norelco" was the company's shaving brand here in the US. Their shaving brand was called "PhilliShave" everywhere else in the world.)
It looks as if it is made of bakelite, although it could be plastic. But, it is of a very warm ivory color. It comes in its own leather shaving kit, with its own electrical cord and brush. The brush also has a bakelite/plastic handle.
The shaver is in excellent condition. The leather case is also in excellent condition.
Here is a fascinating website for the "PhilliShave Collectors Club". If you go there, you'll see a picture of the exact same shaver we are featuring here...except that OUR shaver has a recessed, red Norelco logo on the handle, which seems to be made of brushed aluminum. The one pictured on the website that I'm referring to does not have that logo, nor do any others that I can find pictured.

The following excerpt from the website explains the significance of this Norelco Double-Header shaver and why it is has such important historical significance in the shaving world:
"In 1948, Philips' shavers still had only one shaving head. US competitors Remington and Schick used multiple shaving heads. Not surprisingly, the breakthrough of Philishave and Norelco came when the shavers were fitted with two shaving heads (1951), which made it possible to shave much faster: the Philishave Norelco Doubleheader. In the US later the shaver would be called Norelco Speedshaver. Sales beat every possible record, and Philips' shaver factories which had been moved to a new location in the North of The Netherlands (Drachten) could hardly keep pace. Within the next ten years Norelco rivaled renowned US brands Schick and Remington."
