Antique ART NOUVEAU Heavy Brass BOOKENDS Book Rack

This is a set of adjustable brass Art Nouveau bookends / bookholder made in Germany and dating from 1900 to 1940.

The bookends are outstanding in quality, as evidenced by the use of three rather than two sets of expandable rods, the very fine detail in the moulded metal relief, and the heavy weight of solid metal.

The bookstand measures 32.5 cm (12¾ inches) when closed and up to 59 cm (23¼ inches) when fully expanded. Both ends fold inwards for compact storage when not in use.

The bookstand is stamped “Germany” on the bottom and both end sections are numbered “5974”. This is a beautiful original antique item of excellent quality and with practical use.

Size: Height = approx. 15 cm (6 inches). Width = 32.5 to 59 cm (12¾ to 23¼ inches).

Age: Circa 1900–1940.

Material: Brass.

Condition: Very good; minor surface wear commensurate with age and use.
