Equipage's "Marbella", an ARF R/C Model BoatBack in 2005/6, Equipage entered the R/C model boat world with some slick all-wood almost ready to run model boats, which were patterned after some of the classic woody runabouts. All well and good until the hulls started to explode. Seems that the all wood planked construction was lacking, and the deck and hull planking would crack open due to humidity changes! Well, I and other modelers convinced Equipage that the right thing to do was to add a layer of fiberglass over the wood to hold things together-- a standard process for building planked r/c model boats. So at the 2007 iHobby Expo in Chicago, Equipage introduced their revised line-up of models, which included not only a clear layer of fiberglass over the outer planking, but an additional layer BETWEEN the two plank layers.
This seems to have worked, for the Marbella model here has been in my Michigan basement for two full years now, through winter and summer humidity changes, and looks just fine thank you.
I'm not sure if Equipage is still with us, the recession has been tough on hobby companies... but this is still a fun model boat, waiting for someone to take her to the water. It'll take a little effort though- you'll need to:
- Add you own radio/batteries etc.
- Finish assembling the stainless steel windshield frame to the deck (not an easy fit)
- And if you really like, detail the model- it could use some more clear coat to fill the deck's glass weave along with some polishing (or leave it as is!)
You'll get all the original parts, original packing, and again, she's never been in the water.
Model is 32" long, 10.6" wide.
NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING! The box is too big for reasonable postage: 10x15x37", but only 10 lbs.
