Here is a wonderful limited edition lithograph from well-known French artist Bernard Buffet. It pictures Notre Dame Cathedral along The Seine River in Paris and it is dated 1968. The image is in excellent condition and features deep rich colors of blue, pale yellow and green with Buffet's sharp black geometric lines and accents.
The work measures 19 1/2" x 25 1/2" from the outside edges. It is unframed but was matted and framed at one time. The image itself measures 18 1/2" x 22 1/2" and shows some light browning around the edges from the mat which would be covered in a new frame. The top edge of the back of the print has evidence of the previous mounting tape which is not noticeable on the front image.
The back of the frame had a label (see photo) identifying the piece as being "authenticated by the Societe de Verification de la Nouvelle Gravure Internationale of New York and Paris which certifies and warrants that this is an original lithograph by Bernard Buffet signed in the stone. The society was created by the Collector's Guild to set and uphold the highest standards for original lithographs and etchings."
About the artist: Bernard Buffet was born in Paris in 1928 and died in 1999. He was a legend in his own time. His famous linear style make his works the most recognizable in the world. No collection of modern art is complete without its Buffet.
