The Carson Optical Close Focus series of binoculars have very large eyepieces, very long eye relief, and a super wide field of view. They make excellent binoculars for birding because of these features. This 8X42 pair of binoculars (Model JK-842) will focus down to an amazing 5 feet (1.7m)! This gives a great advantage for nature study. There focus from 5 feet to infinity. We do not know of any other binoculars in this class that have such a wide focus range. The adjustable eye cups make these binoculars a pleasure to use with our without eye glasses.

These binoculars are rugged, compact, and reasonably light. Because of this and the fact that these binoculars are waterproof, you can take them into the field without feeling you are carrying a brick around with you. The adjustable eye cups make these easy to use with our without glasses. Looking through this set of binoculars makes it very obvious that there is a difference between a cheap pair of binoculars and one that, while still inexpensive, is of the highest quality.

Let me explain what the 8X42 means. The '8X' means that these binoculars give a magnification of 8 times the original view. The '42' means that the lenses on these binoculars are 42 mm in diameter which is slightly more than 1.65 inches. The 42 mm lenses give you good views in dim light and 8X in enough power to bring everything close enough for close study. An 8 power binoculars is easy to hand hold.
