Dug Charleston SC Hard Times Civil War ? Token Coin Old

This is very nice old US token found in Charleston, SC. It is made of brass I think, but has a neat reeded edge like a dime or quarter. The token reads "Keep Your Temper". It pictures a lady on the front of the token sitting in a chair (doing something) & on the reverse There is an old style military eagle.

 This is in great condition and has developed the olive green patina after having been in the ground for so long. It has not been cleaned, but could be, if desired. I'm not clear as to whether or not this is a Civil War period token - or some type of "hard times" token. It is very interesting & I would guess, not too common. A neat Charleston find!

"These (tokens) were made mostly in Great Britain, but they were also made in the USA as well (many different makers). They were used to keep track of score in card games (called whist) from the 1850's through the WWI era. During the horse drawn transit days, whist was a hugely popular leisure pastime among the great middle & upper middle classes of ladies and gentlemen; however, the advent of automobile transit and its convenience generated new leisure time options for people, and card games waned a bit."
