Info on Mulberry Paper
Mulberry
paper – Environmental friendly
Mulberry Paper is made from the bark of mulberry
tree. The bark is stripped from the trees annually in a manner that
ensures the tree is unharmed.
The
bark is first boiled to soften the fiber. It is then left to cool and
soak overnight until the bark is soft and pliable. The next step is to
boil it for several hours in a mixture of water and caustic soda. The
soda causes the fibers to breakdown even further and also to bleach it
to an off-white color.
The pulp is then placed in large vats to dissipate.
A framed sieve is washed in the vats and small fibers are captured on
it. The paper itself forms naturally on the frame, which is placed in
the sun to dry. Dried flowers and leaves may be added to the pulp for
design purpose.
The
manufacture of Mulberry paper is completed handmade and therefore
production is limited.
