This is part of Milan's Le Hot Club De France Archive Series.
In the '50s and '60s, Armstrong toured incessantly with his All Stars, one of his most popular line-ups. The State Department of Washington organized an Armstrong tour of Africa in 1960. The tour saw Satch and Co. performing all over the Dark Continent in a series of 40-odd concerts. The cuts featured on this disc were selected from the Elisabethville concert and include some of the Maestro's most popular tunes--"When The Saints Go Marching In," "St. Louis Blues," "When It's Sleepy Time Down South," and the lovely, melancholic title track. Clarinetist Barney Bigard, trombonist Trummy Young, vocalist Vera Middleton, and the other All Stars match the musical energy and chops of their leader, making this live set a fine slice of classic entertainment.
