Bunny Wailer, born Neville Livingston, was the most overlooked member of the original Wailers, but while Bob Marley and Peter Tosh might have garnered more acclaim, it was Bunny's high, sweet voice that gave the trio's harmonies their power, and his thoughtful, understated songwriting often matched Marley and Tosh's best work. An unfailingly positive and uplifting songwriter (tracks like "Unity" and "Struggle" have the emotive power of the best gospel), Bunny Wailer is also a standout singer and a canny producer, able to give these tracks both the necessary bass throb of the best roots reggae and a fleet lightness of tone that makes plain reggae's essential links to American R&B. This aptly-titled compilation of solo recordings from perhaps the most productive and artistically satisfying period of Bunny's career, the late '70s and early '80s, is both a perfect introduction to the man's work and a standout collection of classic roots reggae.
