VINTAGE 50'S PINK CREPE GOWN RHINESTONE NECKLINE 8
Vintage late 50's, early 60's ? evening gown to floor made of dense and thick pink crepe fabric. Empire waist under bust then set in actual waist with wide fabric panel.
Considering its style and tailorings, we really think it is from the late 40's but just not sure.
Wide band of charcoal gray, raised, twisted, and roped tiny glass beads with intermingled, faceted, oblong and round glass beads (look like tiny glass lanterns and shine like opals).
Glass rhinestones are set in silver metal bezels imbedded around shoulder, throughout shoulder straps, and around back neckline. Bead work and rhinestones drape down front and back shoulder area and shaped into arrowheads at front.
Empire waist with vertical bust darting and vertical gathers both under bust and below wide panel to skirting. Wide panel of fabric below bust travels around front to back.
Amazingly this gown has two small side pockets hidden in side seams. Lined in cream muslin.
Metal toothed, hidden zipper at center back. Metal hook and eyes at gown top edge, mid waist panel, and below panel. Small zipper is silver metal, not plastic, with Mark trademark zipper with pink metal pull.
Gown fully lined in sturdy and silky pale pink cotton muslin fabric sewn directly to heavy crepe fabric. Two separate layers of fabric. Not a free flow lining. Wide hems (2" plus) and seams with hand sewn stitching. Interior seams are flat, have pinking sheared edges, and lay flat.
Left leg front slit in gown with wide facings and top stitched all around slit area on interior.

CONDITION: Vintage 50's to 60's formal evening gown very Gently Used for being 50's vintage (not really sure but it could be from the late 40's as it has that 40's style). No dryrot, pings or pulls in crepe fabric. No missing rhinestones or beadwork or stones. Lining very much in tact with no deterioration.
Gown could use an overall dry clean around interior neckline which has some dusty discolor that should come out with a dry clean or even spot clean. Not necessary as on interior. Check with your cleaner on how to protect the rhinestones and beadwork. We have never had it dry cleaned.
Gown is very long and flowy, there is an area at the very bottom hem that could do with a spot or dry clean, and also along the hem where the rolled hem edge would brush your shoes. Not stained, torn, worn away, or damaged. Just needs an overall good dry or spot clean. But wearable without the clean. We have held the gown up through outside lighting and could find no fades in the color. No dryrot or about to disintegrate.
Belonged to our Great Aunt who left us her collection from the 1920's through early 70's when she died at the ripe Irish age of 90 back in the early 80's. As an aside, we will NEVER sell her monkey fur trimmed, very real Roaring 20's satin coat. We have instructed the family to bury us in it! No kidding!
Gown is Vintage which means you need to wear Vintage to keep fibers moving ahead of any dryrot or just plain old age. We tried to wear this gown at least once every few years since we have owned it. Kept in protected storage in her original cloth, Talon zippered bags out of sun and dampness. This piece is from our own personal collection and only owned by 2 people, my Great Aunt and me.
You don't find many of these gorgeous, heavy crepe gowns still around, so hopefully some vintage fashion maven will buy it, wear it, and take care of it as we have. Even if you are a collector to resell, that would be better than it just sitting in our storage unworn.
Believe me, this gown is very heavy, yet comfortable on. Not a sheer or thin crepe. Very very thick, heavy, and dense fabric.
Very elegant, classic style with that 40's trim of rhinestones and beadwork. Good Luck!
When we created abfabvintage.com in 2001, we intended to list our personal collection from the family. We have a lot of 20's to 60's gowns, coats, scarves, and jewelry that have come down through my Irish family over the years and yet we still have misgivings about selling off our one of a kind heirlooms.
Every time we decide to sell from our personal collection, a part of our history goes to you. We don't plan to wear this gown again and want another vintage maven to inherit it and wear it as we have.
We are assuming this gown is from the 50's, but very well may be from the 40's. We try to rarely list our personal collection, but in order to preserve this gown we are offering it up for sale. Good Luck!
We apologize that we have to go into so much detail here, but we have to be very explicit about how we run our auctions.

ITEM CONDITION
Most of what we offer on eBay has had more than one life whether from personal collections, consignments, or from Estate and Auction sales. Therefore, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE our Vintage, New, Nearly New, or Gently Used items are from Smoke Free, Pet-Free, or any other environments to which you may be allergic. We suggest a refresh to your personal satisfaction upon receipt. We routinely use the home dry cleaning system of Dry El in our automatic dryer. If you have allergies to smells of any kind, please do not bid as we cannot accommodate everyone's allergy threshhold.
Great care is taken in describing overall condition of our merchandise. We will repair, tailor, dry clean, launder, refresh, and/or polish items prior to listing, unless described otherwise in the Auction Description. Our auction prices are already reduced if we feel the item is in need of a more intense, professional cleaning and/or repair. Any repairs or cleaning beyond our expertise is referenced in the Auction Description.
As with any piece of Nearly New, Gently Used and Used Vintage clothing, please take into account that even the most cherished and cared for piece may have age related, very minor imperfections. Each piece is carefully examined and discernible flaws disclosed. Most of the items we sell are Vintage, Nearly New (Used), and Gently Used and may have some very slight imperfection. Slight discrepancies in color or minor flaws that don't affect the item's wearability or usability are not misrepresentations or imperfections. But if it is visibly there, we will tell you in the auction Description.
Please ask all questions PRIOR to placing your bid and, in particular, the SIZE, CONDITION, and AUTHENTICITY of the item. In addition, it is highly recommended that you FOLLOW THE FLAT MEASUREMENTS provided in all Auction Descriptions by matching the item up to an item you know fits you. We try our best to ESTIMATE the actual size and will conservatively side with the flat measurements rather than the designer size tag. We always include approximate Flat Measurements even when a manufacturer's size label is referenced (and our tape measure is more than accurate using both a laser and cloth measuring tape).
PAYMENT TERMS
ALL BUYERS: Unless you have paid immediately using Pay Pal or PayPal eCheck, payment is due within 7 business days from auction close unless you have made other extended payment arrangements with us, AND notified us at auction close that you need more time (we are very flexible, but you need to contact us in order to extend payment time). In order to pay with PayPal, you need to have your account set up prior to bidding as it takes a few days to set up a PayPal account.
- U.S. BUYERS: We accept PayPal (please have your account activated prior to bidding). We also welcome your questions about payment concerns considering the new eBay payment policies. If you are using PayPal eCheck, your eCheck must clear our account before shipment is initiated. We do appreciate you have stellar feedback, but items cannot be shipped until your payment has cleared. Payment is due within 7 business days from auction close unless you have paid immediately at auction close, or made other arrangements with us to extend payment time.
- INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: We accept PayPal (please have your account activated prior to bidding). Payment is due within 7 business days from auction close unless you have paid immediately at auction close, or made other arrangements with us to extend payment time.
A NOTE ABOUT eChecks through PayPal: shipping will occur within 3 business days once your eCheck has cleared through our PayPal account AND bank. Shipping time is not calculated from the day you initiated the uncleared payment (it usually takes 4-8 days to clear after you initiate a payment). Paypal (and this seller) will email you once your eCheck has cleared.
SHIPPING
A VERY IMPORTANT SHIPPING NOTE: There is a shipping calculator on all of our auctions. Unless you have won the item with Free Shipping, please use the calculator PRIOR to placing your bid as we use that same information provided by the calculator. If you have any questions, please email us. This is very important to us when you rate our shipping costs using the Star rating system. That is, you do know ahead of time before you bid what you will be required to pay for shipping. Consequently, if you purchased the item with Free Shipping, there should be no discrepancy on how to evaluate our shipping stars.
Our time frame to ship out to you is clearly stated in our selling policies so you do know ahead of time the shipping time frame (we ship out within 3 business days from receipt of payment, and usually sooner). However, that does not include the time it takes for the USPS to get it to you. For International sales, keep in mind that you must follow your country's rules for shipping and customs including the time it takes to get to you, and any fees your country's customs requires. We cannot control the length of time for delivery, nor any additional fees you may be charged once it gets to its International destination.
We charge USA buyers $1.00 for handling. We charge International buyers $1.50 for handling which covers our time to execute all the forms and paperwork necessary for shipping overseas. With the new eBay rules regarding insurance, we will indicate in the Auction Description whether we will require insurance (usually for breakables and very vintage, one of a kind items) and that the cost it is folded into our shipping calculator. If you do not want the insurance we have calculated, let us know before an invoice is created.
- Items are shipped to U.S. and International buyers using USPS Priority Mail and First Class Mail. If you prefer a different USPS shipping method, like Parcel Post, please email us. A delivery confirmation receipt is required for US Buyers and calculated within the shipping rate. For International buyers, we will NOT alter customs forms (i.e., designating it as a gift) as we would lose our shipping privileges to your country.
- For International buyers, USPS Priority International automatically covers you for insurance in amounts usually beyond what the item has sold for. Therefore, we do not charge extra for insurance on USPS Priority International sales. However, the USPS Priority Flat Rate Envelope for International buyers is not covered under that USPS policy.
- Will gladly combine ship multiple items to help you save on shipping costs. Request that you notify us that you have bid or intend to bid on other items and will request combined shipping.
- We ship out within 3 business days after payment is received. We do not ship on Saturdays. If you need the item sooner than our ship out days, notify us before placing your bid that you need the item sooner for a special event, AND give us a reasonable window. We will try our best to accommodate your request. If we cannot ship out by the 3rd business day from receipt of payment due to unavoidable circumstances, we will email you ahead of time if at all possible.
RETURN POLICY FOR ALL BUYERS
All sales are ABSOLUTELY FINAL for all Vintage, New, Nearly New, Gently Used, and Used items. No Returns, Refunds, or Exchanges honored under any circumstances. You are accepting the item AS IS. All items are in the condition as described to the very best of our ability, and items are more than thoroughly described both with pictures and text in every Auction Description. If you attempt to alter the item after the sale, we cannot be responsible for any "unknown" flaws which may appear during or after the alterations are made.
As with any Vintage, New, Nearly New, Used, or Gently Used item that has had another life (and in some cases, more than one life), we suggest that you dry clean, launder, or refresh the item to your personal satisfaction upon receipt if only as a refresh from its shipping carton and its travels through the postal system.
