Trefoil Bird's Foot, Lady's Slipper, Bacon and Eggs, Dutchman's Clog, Granny's Toenails and Devil's Finger's are just a few names this flower goes by, because of it's shape, which resembles old fashioned slippers or shoes.  It is really a member of the Lotus family and is a perennial.  Here in Maine we have only white and pink and they are a protected species.  They are very easy to grow and are good in most zones.
