| This is a very fine bobbin lace Victorian shawl from mid to late 1800. I believe it to be Honiton Lace but can't be positive. There was a note regarding Honiton Lace with lace from this estate. There are several different looking Honiton laces- those with the connecting bars and those with mesh background as this has. If anyone has any information on this, please let me know. It is a light tan color probably tea dyed and is 21 inches by 98 inches long. The pattern is very beautiful with flowers and thistles amongst scrolling vines and leaves. As you can see the are various filling and raised stitches. Condition is very good. There are 2 spots largest being a 2 inch cirlcle of darker tan organic looking spot and near it a smaller thumbsize and tiny line very faint. There is a 1/2 inch opening that is the largest and about 3 more tiny openings. These could all be could with a stitch or two but only largest is seen and not easily due to the pattern of the lace. The spots can be seen but to me are not glaring and do not take away from the beauty of the shawl. This item will require insurance. Please see my other ebay auction and store items. Thank you. |
