The Teaching of Written English BOOK Language Study

The Teaching of Written English by P. Gurrey.  Hardcover book published by Longmans 1964, 238 pages.  This book is addressed to teachers of the mother tongue everywhere. Though the focus throughout is on the teaching of English in Britain, yet the principles and problems of teaching native languages are the same all over the world. Indeed teachers of mother tongues have rarely realised how much they can learn from one another-and here they will see how English may be taught in Britain. And as the development of children's abilities is dealt with fully, both in theory and practice, those who teach in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific, where English is the medium of instruction, will find the description of the underlying psychology and of classroom methods particularly useful and revealing.  Most teachers feel that this subject-the teaching of written English-is one of the most difficult, and also one of the most problematical: quite apart from the diffi­culty of teaching pupils to write at all, there is the problem of teaching them to write 'good English'. This book deals fully with the difficulties and problems involved in teaching the subject, discussing the various abilities to be trained and the best methods of training them.  This book is in very good condition.  The dust jacket is in fair condition.  There is wear to the edges, corners (some minor bumping) and to the top of the spine (creasing).  There is some shelf wear overall as well as scuffs and marks (more marks to the back of the dust jacket). There is some yellowing with more yellowing to the spine. The cover is in very good condition.  There is some slight wear to the corners and to the top and bottom of the spine. The binding is slightly cocked (leaning over).  The book itself is in very good condition. There are some minor marks to the outer edges. The front endpages have some creasing (also to the first page of text).  There is some yellowing of the pages.  Overall a  very good copy, with some wear to the dust jacket.

I post up to 5 times a week, excluding Saturday and Sunday.   I generally post within 24 hours of receiving payment (excluding weekends and public holidays).

AUSTRALIAN BUYERS (postage within Australia):

Books can be heavy.

0 to 250g   Items under 250g will be posted as a parcel or a large letter depending on size.  This means postage will be between $1.10 and $4.35.

250g to 500g   Postage will be $5.60

500g +  A parcel post satchel (up to 3kg) is $9.90 to anywhere within Australia.  This is the cheapest option for items over 500g or multiple items interstate (usually 3 to 4 books depending on size).  Within Victoria postage is cheaper depending on where you are.  For large items, heavy or multiple items please email me for a price on postage.

Pick up is possible by arrangement.
