ARTIST PROOF LITHOGRAPH BY INTERNATIONALLY RENOUNED ARTIST WYLAND
When purchasing art you need to know if it is an “ORINGAL PRINT” or an “ARTWORK REPRODUCTION”. An original print was made by the artist and has their signature and usually the number of the order that print was made in and the total number of prints that were made. A "Limited Edition" is an edition will not be printed again in the same media or size. An artwork reproduction can be made in any size and by any means; it is usually not approved by the artist, and is a poor substitute for an original. An Original Print is a collector’s piece; an artwork reproduction isn’t. The value of the original print usually increases as the value of the reproduction lessens. All of the pieces I see are either Original Oil Paintings or Original Prints. **TO SEE THE OTHER PRINTS AND ORIGINAL PAINTINGS IN THE FINE ARTS & GRAPHS STORE ** **JUST CLICK ONTHE STORE ICON AT THE TOP RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THIS PAGE**
Robert Wyland Listed in Who’s Who in American Art, the Guinness Book of World Records, and many other national and international publications, the multi-faceted artist has even hosted several series for television, including, “Wyland’s Ocean World” on the Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet Network. Today, he is considered one of the most influential artists of the 21st Century, with artwork in museums, corporate collections, and private homes in more than one hundred countries. Hailed a “Marine Michaelangelo” by USA Today, Wyland’s work is sought by millions of collectors and his galleries throughout the Robert Wyland ( Marine Life Artist Wyland has earned the distinction as one of WHAT IS A LITHOGRAPH? The printing process which creates a lithograph is different from other traditional methods. Most printing presses require the printmaker to etch an image or text into metal plates or physically carve out the image on blocks of wood or other soft material. There is no etching in a lithograph; the artist uses a set of greasy crayons or pencils to draw a mirrored image of the original artwork onto a smooth stone tablet. This is by far the most time-consuming part of the lithograph process. After the image has been recreated it is ready to be turned into a lithograph. The lithographic process works on the principle that oil and water cannot mix. An oil-based variety of ink is applied directly to the plate and immediately bonds with the equally greasy crayon lines. Water is then wiped onto the remaining unpainted areas to discourage the ink from smearing. A sheet of paper, preferably one with high cotton content, or a canvas is then placed over the entire plate. The inked stone or metal plate and the paper are placed in a press and light pressure is used to transfer some of the ink. If the original image were a monochrome pen and ink drawing, this would be the only press run necessary. A color lithograph requires as many different runs as the number of colors used in the piece. The same paper would be placed precisely over the re-inked plates, eventually creating a satisfactory lithograph copy. Since the process for creating a lithograph can be just as time-consuming and detailed as an original painting, printing runs are often kept low to preserve value. A signed lithograph may have a set of numbers expressed as a fraction on one corner, such as 12/300. This means that the lithograph was the twelfth one produced in a series limited to three hundred prints. TAKING CARE OF YOUR ARTWORK: It is recommended to frame immediately. If storing print - wrap and seal it to avoid moisture damage. HANGING YOUR ART - As with all fine art, avoid positions that are exposed to moisture, heat, direct sunlight and excessive artificial light. Prolonged exposure to any of the above will shorten the life of the artwork. |
