|
|
This badge is from the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Soviet Union. 60 countries, including the USA, boycotted the summer Olympics that year...claiming it was because of the Afghanistan fiasco....but Angola, Laos, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Vietnam, Nicaragua, and Mozambique made their first appearence in any Olympics that year. the Soviet Union dominated the events and won 80 gold medals. East Germany came in second with 47. 4 years later, in Los Angeles, all Socialist Republics of the world and their allies boycotted those Olympics...and the entire Olympiad system started to fall apart. a couple years later, Ted Turner produced the Goodwill Games in order to get capitalist and Socialist countries competing athletically again. this pin is 3/4" by 9/16" and is enameled aqua and light brown on gold metal. this series has many colors not usually seen in Soviet badges. I will happily ship internationally, but please contact me first for rates. for combined shipping, just add 50 cents for each additional pin. after 6 pins, i stop asking for additional s/h. thank you for your interest in history and socialism. |
