Willie Hightower If I Had a Hammer: northern soul LP

Note: I abide by strict standards when grading all LPs. This is a NM-, VG+, VG, VG-, G+, and G scale. You can rely on my conservative grading as you'll see in my descriptions.

LP Condition: VG+

                This LP plays just short of NM- which is the highest grade I offer on records since they are a contact system. This LP would deserve a NM- grade were it not for the slightest background noise that drops in for less than a minute throughout the entire record. This copy is in great shape and its green labels are in great shape too. You’ll be hard pressed to find a cleaner copy of this record so have no fear. This LP will play well for any club dj, radio dj, or at-home listener.

Cover Condition: VG+

                This cover is practically perfect with the exception of the punch hold the upper right hand corner. As you can see, the cover has hardly been touched with that one exception. There are no seam splits, cut corners, or any other defects from storage. The cover retains its original shine too so, believe me, VG+ is a conservative grade for such a nice cover.

Description:

                Up for auction is a nice original pressing of Willie Hightower’s If I Had a Hammer LP on Capitol records. As mentioned above, this LP is in great condition and will play well for soul aficionados at home or soul djs at the club. This LP is a rarity and features a few songs which were also pressed on 45s that, more often than not, got played out to the extent that they’re completely beat-up nowadays. This brand of soul music is highly recommended for fans of early 1960s soul a la Jacky Wilson, Sam Cooke, and Darrell Banks. For those of you who prefer purist, organically produced soul music just after doo-wop, you won’t be disappointed. Check the audio online as these songs were reissued in 2005 on a self-titled compilation.
