General Description: This image can be regarded as an associative link whose purpose is to trigger thoughts and create a narrative. In an unidentified location only hinted at by the title, the personal, private environment is illuminated by beauty that conceals a critical gaze. Saturated and devoted to the pleasures of the eye yet responsive to deeper, more dramatic sensations it arouses, the merging of beauty and deep observation emerges as power. Interlaced with splendor, stereotypical, and social conventions arise, together with questions of identity and belonging. The Artist:
David Adika, born 1970 in Jerusalem and currently in residency in Paris, is a photographer working mainly with still lives and portraiture in which the critical gaze is concealed in ‘beauty’. Beauty in Adika's works, together with the inquisitive eye, acts as both a honey-trap that delights the viewer, and a contemplative force, reflecting conflicts of identity and doom. David Adika received his BFA and MFA from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, and has exhibited in many solo and group shows in Glasgow, Barcelona, Tel Aviv, Stockholm and more. Adika has received numerous awards and scholarships, among them the Keren Sharet of the America-Israel Fund and the Young Artist Award of the Israel Ministry of Art and Culture.
Enclosed with every print is a signed and numbered authenticity certificate.
