) symbol before or after the serial number depending on note type. Notes with an error are usually caught by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and destroyed and replaced by a duplicate note with a Star. They're used to maintain a correct count of notes in a serial number run.
Star Notes are rare and highly desirable by collectors.
Awesome BIG deep bright red treasury seal on left side of note instead of right and deep bright red serial numbers. TALL TWO on right. Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, located near Charlottesville, Virginia, on back. These notes are highly desirable not only because of the age and reasons listed above, but also because 1928 is the FIRST year US currency is the size we know today, prior to 1928, US currency was larger, and this one's a STAR NOTE.
