Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play brings together the 21 best games to be found on Midway's previous Treasures compilations for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube. Well, 20 plus one that should have been included on those older discs but wasn't -- Mortal Kombat.

It's definitely an attractive thought, being able to play some MK during the morning train ride, or firing up some Paperboy while sitting through that boring geography lesson. After all, these titles were built on the philosophy of short gaming bursts, which is perfect for a portable console. Plus the thought of playing Spy Hunter while sitting on the can makes us giggle.

Midway and developer Digital Eclipse have taken Extended Play a step beyond just another classics compilation, though. A full 16 of the 21 included games will feature wireless multiplayer of some sort. Grab a buddy with another PSP and see which of you can cause the most destruction in Rampage, or who can scream past the finish line first in Championship Sprint. And let's not forget the king of arcade multiplayer action, Gauntlet. Spy Hunter, Sinistar, Defender, Paperboy, and 720 will not include wireless multiplayer.

There's no word from Midway on whether multiplayer games will require multiple UMDs or utilize the PSP game sharing feature. We're also in the dark on whether Extended Play will rotate the screen and allow us to play some games vertically on the PSP. But with a collection of games this extensive on one UMD, we're excited already.
