If you look at the back of a basic bag of food, you will most likely find ingredients such as.... corn, corn gluten, protein + by-product (that means intestines, heads and feet), grains, soy (cats NEED meat proteins that contain taurine NOT SOY), artificial preservatives, colors, and flavors... etc. Some of these ingredients are non-digestible (meaning it is void in nutrition and you paid for it because it fills the companies bag), common allergen especially in dogs, can cause vomiting, itching/irritation around toes and ears (commonly a yeast infection). If you see any of these signs, consider visiting a vet or a chain store such as PetCo where they have a Natural section. There are natural, holistic, organic, and even vegetarian (only for dogs). Natural foods don't have those fillers, allergens, by-products, etc. They are more consistent from bag to bag, so there is less likelihood that your animals' stomachs would be upset. There is so much healthy nutrition in each formula that you end up giving your animals smaller servings vs. the serving size of basic foods. And they get more nutrition out of it, so they absorb more and there is less waste.

In the long run, the health of your pet should increase and the cost of food vs. having to take it to a vet more often... it evens out price-wise. Everyone's pets are worth it.
