U2-SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T MAKE IT ON YOUR OWN-UK PROMO CD #U2PRO 4
The second single released to promote the "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" album in Europe was "Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own", debuting to radio there on December 13, 2004. Despite being issued before the end of the year, the CD is dated 2005 on the liner. In North America a different promotional single, "All Because Of You" was released around the same time. The commercial single releases for each song would soon follow in their respective regions. The "Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own" European promo single contained two edits of the title track for radio play, a 99 and a 96 "Beats Per Minute" mix. Each edit contained the same music. The 99 BPM version is just played a bit faster, resulting in some slight audio modification. The vocals in the 99 BPM edit occasionally take on a quality fondly referred to as "Robo-Bono". A third edit, the 103 BPM mix, was released later on a second USA promo. This version was 13 seconds shorter still and boasted "more tempo". The first USA promo CD was released to radio in February of 2005 and featured the same 99 BPM and 96 BPM edits found on the earlier European issues. The aforementioned second USA promo with the 103 BPM edit appeared a month later in March. The Mexico promo CD was distributed to radio there in April, 2005 and featured the same two edits found on the initial USA release and the European issues. TRACKS: 1.
