Item specifics
Listed By: Faint shield on bottomType: Metal/Ironwork
Style: CluelessRegion of Origin: Unknown
Date of Creation: UnknownOriginal/ Reproduction: Original

I tried and tried researching what I "think" is an old iron potato masher.

If it looks like a masher and it sounds like a masher and it moves like a masher, sounds like a handmade old iron masher, it could be a muddler. NOT the kind of muddler the bartender in Miami uses to mash mint for mojitos.Another kind that people used to mash other stuff.

9 inches tall with a distinct tilt, openwork handle, 2.75 inch across the bottom, 23 holes .25 inch wide , surrounding a faintly impressed shield containing a "C".

Joking side I believe it's pretty old and my fruitless search for it has only made me more interested in whether or not it is a old masher....er muddler, and when it was made.
