SHAKER LEATHER & SILK SEWING KIT W/THREAD ART EMERY
(This week: a fine collection of early Shaker and hand made sewing items! Check out my other items!)

This late 19th c. Shaker leather sewing kit shows meticulous workmanship and a great sense of style, with the wonderful silver silk brocade lining and the contrasting red edging and stitching. Under the leather lid, there's a second flap which has red-trimmed wool needle leaves on one side and a ribbon with red stitching to hold scissors and other tools. Particularly nice is the little matching silk emery with red "thread art" style trim in the shape of a star, along with the little attached silk tomato pincushion and a little attached thimble holder with red silk trim. There's also an early thimble, and tiny pair of scissors. Interestingly, the texture of the leather is rougher than the usual leather, perhaps even pig skin.

Because the interior of the kit is so attractive and well made, and the accessories are so nice, it will be a great display piece in your Shaker / sewing collection despite some wear to the exterior (see below).

CONDITION: Good condition; inside is excellent; There is wear to the exterior, including a couple of pin-sized holes (see photos). The silk emery is excellent, the tomato is in good condition, although several of the red threads have come loose.
SIZE: 4 1/4" L by 3" W by 1.5" H.
