This great, very rare CD is brand new sealed! Same day shipping upon payment! This is a great CD. 4
Quality New and Pre-Owned CD's. I try to buy the highest quality pre-owned cd's for my customers. We spend many hours searching for the best pre-owned cds from top-notch record dealers and wholesalers in our area. Many of the cds we sell are in new or like new condition and some are still factory sealed (will be noted). Our cds are sometime marked in some way by the supplier, either with a hole punch through the bar code, a cut through a side of the jewel case or a pen mark on the package itself. These marks do not in any way affect the play ability of the cd. I replace any jewel case with major damage (i.e. major cracks, broken ears, etc.). All cover art is present unless otherwise noted. Please contact me with any concerns before leaving feedback so we can resolve them. Customer satisfaction is my goal and I appreciate your business! Payment please in 5 days of auction close. Thanks!
WILL SHIP SAME DAY FIRST CLASS USA FOR $2.95 AND WORLDWIDE $5.99

Hot
Panda are from Edmonton, Alberta. Their debut, VOLCANO. BLOODY VOLCANO
is full of attitudinal, slightly sloppy indie rock, with one
distinguishing difference--they really know how to play. Feats of
musicianship like the nimble guitar soloing on "Gold Star Swimmer" and
the schizoid synths of "Cold Hands/Chapped Lips" are proof enough.
Singer Chris Connelly has a touch of Mark E. Smith's sneer, mixed with
the ebullience of his countrymen in the Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade. He
explores usual topics like love ("Whale Headed Girl") and youthful
transitoriness ("Chinatown Bus") in an original, unusual manner.

![Volcano... Bloody Volcano [Digipak] * by Hot Panda (CD, Feb-2009, Mint Records) Volcano... Bloody Volcano [Digipak] * by Hot Panda (CD, Feb-2009, Mint Records)](http://i14.ebayimg.com/04/c/000/77/7d/6f13_7.JPG) The feeling you take away from Hot Panda's debut album Volcano...Bloody
Volcano after a few spins is that the Edmonton quartet really love pop
music. There are so many different kinds of rock and pop folded into
their sound that you know they spent a whole bunch of time listening
and studying records as they grew up. At different times throughout the
album you can hear the upbeat tempos of new wave, the tough snarl of
garage rock, the jittery atmosphere of postpunk (Talking Heads, in
particular), the sunny jangle of indie pop, and the fractured songcraft
of iconoclastic U.S. indie rock. Luckily for the listener (and the
band) they manage to craft something out of all their influences that
doesn't sound too in thrall to any one style or sound. It helps that
the album fairly springs out of the speakers and into your lap like a
friendly puppy dog, it also helps that the songs are short and jammed
with catchy melodies. The only (possible) problem with the record is
the vocals of Chris Conn...elly.
He's from the leavingitalloutthere school of vocalizing, he doesn't so
much sing the songs as he acts, squirms, and shouts his way through
them. Sometimes it works quite well, like on the Falllike "Gold Star
Swimmer," or any song where the spiky sound of the band matches his
voice. Sometimes it falls a little flat and goes a little too far, like
on the overly dramatic "Sexual Frustration." Next time out a little
moderation could help things out a fair bit but for now, it's pretty
easy to overlook the few moments that grate and enjoy the record.
There's more than enough joyful racket and solid tunes in the Hot Panda
sound to keep you coming back for repeated listens.

ROLLING STONE BIO While driving past a billboard advertisement for a Panda Hut, Chris
Connelly jokingly asked his bandmates whether the Chinese buffet chain
served steaming panda bear on rice. This spawned the name Hot Panda an
appropriately cheeky name for a cheeky indie pop group. With an
admitted inability to play their instruments with skill and a love for
peppy melodies, the members of the Canadian fourpiece take a lofi
approach to their music. Despite being rooted in '70s punk and Britpop,
they sound nothing like the Buzzcocks or Television, two of their
influences, and with sloppily played tambourines, glockenspiels, and
accordion on their tracks, they more closely resemble Los Campesinos or
the New Pornographers fronted by Daniel Johnston. Hot Panda
were formed in January of 2006 after Connelly and Maghan Campbell
returned from living abroad in Oslo, Norway, and recruited Mike
Robertson and Keith Olsen. They started practicing in a garage in
Edmonton, Alberta, and by 2007 had recorded their first EP, Whale
Headed Girl, and begun touring in a beatdown 1977 ambulance that they
affectionately named "the Pig." Over a hundred shows followed over the
course of a year, including shows at CMJ, SXSW, and Pop Montreal.
Ultimately, the toils of the road wore down Robertson, who was replaced
by multiinstrumentalist Heath Parsons. With Parsons taking guitar,
accordion, and keyboard duties alongside Olsen on bass, Campbell on
drums, and Connelly on vocals and guitar Hot Panda continued gigging,
eventually taking the stage at the New Music West in Vancouver. There,
the band caught the attention of Mint Records and was invited to play
the indie label's Christmas party. They recorded their first
fulllength, Volcano...Bloody Volcano, in February of 2008 with Ryan
McVeigh in Winnipeg's Mid Ocean Studios. An official offer to sign to
Mint followed in April, and Volcano...Bloody Volcano was released in
February of 2009, at a CD release party in Edmonton on Valentine's Day.
GREAT REVIEW, GREAT CD! "If Iggy Pop and Islands had a love child, said offspring would, in a
perfect world, pick up its first guitar and belt out a sweetly witty
ballad of Gypsy-pop riffs that sounds just like this one." -- Georgia
Straight Hot Panda's debut full length was recorded in Winnipeg at
MidOcean Studios by Ryan McVeigh (Boats!, Intercontinental Champion).
Comparisons to giant luminaries such as Daniel Johnston and Talking
Heads have been swirling about, and while it is always nice to be
compared to such bands, Hot Panda has certainly found their own sound.
Leaving behind the frozen garage jam sessions in which their musical
explorations began, Hot Panda has been taking their unique blend of
Britpop, Gypsy swing, glam, and lo-fi indie back and forth across
Canada and the US since their formation in 2006. Volcano...Bloody Volcano
