Negretti & Zambra Mother-of-Pearl Opera Glasses Between 1850 and 1935 the prestigious firm of Negretti & Zambra made scientific, optical and photographic products. They made the instruments which were used on Darwin's voyages aboard the Beagle. This pair of beautifully crafted opera glasses (probably dates around 1880) is scarce and in VERY GOOD condition, except for a small chip in the handle (see photo.) Both eye pieces are marked on the rim: (l) Nagretti & Zambra Opticals; (r) Adjusted in London. Included is the original dark blue velvet drawstring pouch which is worn and a little ragged. Aesthetically, the glasses are beautiful. But the fact that they are made by Negretti & Zambra makes them especially desirable. |
