Billy Smith

Goalie Billy Smith battled just about everything and everyone during his long and glorious National Hockey League career. He fought opposing players, the media with his bold tirades and occasionally his own teammates, challenging them to raise their performance to match his own. Combative and competitive, Battling Billy fought the puck for 18 seasons during his Hall Of Fame career. Highlighted by many moments, Smith will always be remembered as the backstop for the New York Islanders four consecutive Stanley Cup Championships in the early '80s. Billy Smith retired after the '89 season, still an Islander, with 305 wins and 88 more in the playoffs. In 1993 this unique winner, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
