Hardcover edition of A NATURE GUIDE TO ALBERTA. Edited by David A. E. Spalding. Provincial Museum of Alberta Publication No. 5, Hurtig Publishers, 1980, 368 pages, ISBN 0888301790. Some shelf/corner/edgewear & rubbing to dust jacket. A little aging, but still good, clean condition. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Synopsis from DJ inside flap: Here is a book that will delight not only naturalists, hikers, mountaineers, and photographers but all who take an interest in nature, whether it is on a stroll through a city park or on an arduous expedition to Alberta's most inaccessible regions. Magnificently illustrated and including more than fifty maps, this is the first detailed nature guide ever produced that encompasses the entire province. It describes 171 different locations in Alberta, telling you how to get there, what camping facilities are available, and especially what can be seen in each area: wapiti in rut performing their courtship ceremonies; ancient fossils of the duck-billed dinosaur; living birds, butterflies, mammals, fish, frogs, snakes, trees, wild flowers, and a host of other features. The individual locality descriptions form the core of the book, but the guide also provides practical advice on safety in the outdoors as well as an excellent introductory section on Alberta's natural history, an Edmonton-Calgary roadlog, and suggestions for further reading and personal participation in nature activities. Nearly ten years' work and more than one hundred people have combined to provide the detailed information given in these pages. The result is a fascinating book that will give continual pleasure to all who are interested in the natural environment of this beautiful and variegated province. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Shipping & handling costs are $3.15.
