Jennie June's Cook Book, c 1878, published by The American News Company, New York, and written by Mrs. J. C. Croly (Jennie June.) Cook book is all here but it's falling to bits. Great for reference, and you can read it over and over if you handle it with care. It's a hard to find cook book and a grand reference to cooking in the second half of the 19th century. This is a very in depth cook book as it includes carving techniques, Jewish recipes, info on housekeeping, kitchen furnishing, household management, household memoranda, piece rags, dusters, kitchen holders, paper and string, mending, rainy days, packing away summer or winter clothing, cleaning, sheets, pay as you go, how to clear a table, hints on economy, rules for eating, the use of fuel, kitchen ranges, grate fires, soups, meat, fish, fowl, vegetables and all the other types of recipes cooked by the housewife of 1878. Size is 5" by 7 3/4" by 398. There may have been two more pages as the index just stops, it doesn't end. Shipped boxed and padded to protect this ancient book.
