This a really cool set by Comet Metal Products of 8 ship identification models (the 8th model - the sub - sits under the center ship - it is a 2 tier section). It is in the original display case. The case is stamped "Kay Displays, Inc." on the back. According to Fred Dorris' web page on ship identification models (Google: comet ship model kay displays) this was the 1st set that Comet did and was produced in the early part of WWII - probably around 1942-3. It contains eight models which I will list below: USS Enterprise (Carrier) North Carolina (Battleship) Dixie (Destroyer Tender) New Orleans (Heavy Cruiser) Sargo (Submarine) Barnegat (Seaplane Tender) Gridley (Destroyer) Phoenix (Light Cruiser) Each is on the original mounting stick painted a very dark blue or black with the vessels ID printed on the end. The case measures 10" deep, 12 1/4" wide, and 2" tall. There may have been a lid at one time, but it did not have one when I purchased it. I am sure that the 7 ship models are original to the set. Dorris' photos do not show the eighth - but I think a sub makes since here. Each mounting stick is marked with the scale of 1" = 110'. Condition is as follows: Most of the ships have some bends (made from lead) to antennas, structures, gun barrels, etc. Some of the ships such as the Dixie and USSNC have what appear to be missing pieces, such as cranes? on the Dixie and gun turrets on the NC. The mounting sticks are made from plyed wood and some are separating, but this could be easily remedied by gluing them back. I have very lightly cleaned the set, but it could use a good cleaning. This would be a great set for the collector of militaria, and I would think that it would possible to restore it to pretty good shape. I am selling this set "AS IS" , so please ask any questions before the end of the auction. Please e-mail me if you have any questions. All items guaranteed as described.
