Circa 1730's original Hertford North Carolina Oak ladder/high back Chair w/rush woven seat. Nice piece of original North Carolina history here listed on the Perquiman Co Registry from the Newbold White House in Hertford NC. The earliest brick homestead in North Carolina, from the museum. All oak ladderback or slatback chair with highback and original woven rush seat. 45" tall to top of ladderback, seat sits 17" off floor, 22" wide and 17" deep. Highback chair with six handcut handmade Horizontal Slats, graduated in width and mortised into cylindrical Stiles. Stiles are slightly tapered ending into handturned finial points. Rectangular rush seat. Hooved front feet that were apparantly cut down at onetime and reattached. Paired stretchers on sides and front and rear stretchers. Front stretcher turned in ball and ring pattern (typical for the early colonial 1700's). Front stiles are hand mortised into Arms. Early early Americana, not to say the wonderful NC history this piece has. If you are a North Carolina furniture collector this is the piece for a collection or museum. Solid sound chair and a great piece of original NC history. |
