ROYAL BRITISH BOWMEN badge circa 1800

This rare oval badge depicts the Prince of Wales feathers, ICH DIEN on a ribbon, a hunting horn on chains, and a bow and arrow.

A high quality badge with fine detail made of bronze or similar, with a silver finish to the front and a tinned back.

In excellent condition with no damage or repair.

2,3/8" x 1,15/16"  or  60mm x 50mm. weight 18 grams.

Sir Foster Cunliffe founded the Society of British Bowmen in 1787. It was an ideal way to socialise with his social equals around Wrexham. The society was open to ladies and gentlemen. Initially the sport was the top priority. By the mid 19th century the whole business became so extravagant that few could afford to host the Archery society events. The Society stopped meeting in 1880.
