Features of the Bat House

·        All wood used in the construction is 100 % Western Red Cedar (WRC) wood. Absolutely no plywood, particle board, or OSB is used

·        Every house has a sloped roof with overhang to aid in water runoff

·        Every chamber is accessible from all other chambers at top and bottom

·        Every house is constructed with ¾ inch chamber spacing

·        Every house is free of fabric and mesh which can entangle and trap the bats

·        Every house is constructed from rough sawn cedar providing thousands of tiny grooves from which the bats can cling

·        Every house has a landing pad with extended sides for increased protection from predators

·        Every house is assembled with ceramic coated screws which will not rust or stain

·        Constructed with full opening on lower side so bat droppings do not accumulate inside house

Bat House Exterior Sizes

4 Chamber, approximately 20 inches high x 5-1/4 inches wide x 6-1/4 inches deep, will house 40 to 75 bats, weighs approximately 7 pounds before packaging for shipment.

Instructions For Placement of Your Bat House

Select a location that will provide at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily and facing a southern direction.  The bat house should be mounted at least 15 feet above ground level.  It can be mounted on a house, garage, barn, wood pole, metal pipe, tree, etc.  It should not be hung from a rope or chain.  It should be mounted rigidly to maintain it’s orientation to the south. Avoid placement above doors, windows, and walkways.  If a location with 6 hours of sunlight is not available, the house can be painted with nontoxic black paint on the exterior only.  Never paint or stain the interior.  After you have your house installed, be patient.  Bats locate the houses by sight, so if your house is mounted on a tree in dense foliage, it may take longer for the bats to find it.
