Why PGX?
I decided to use PGX for 3 reasons:
1. The #1, most important reason I decided to use PGX to have these books graded was so that buyers had a 3rd party look over the books and give an impartial grade, along with a check for restoration. While PGX does not have the reputation that CGC has, as a buyer, wouldn't you prefer an impartial 3rd party looking at and giving you an opinion on grade, as well as a statement on restoration? As opposed to 95% of the sellers on ebay that not only 'don't know anything about comics', they also do not give a description (IE: whether coupons are cut out, pages missing, writing, tape, paper quality, etc), post horrible microscopic/grainy pics, and will NOT respond to questions. While PGX is not perfect, they do provide a a great deal of information for the buyer to make an informed decision. I personally feel PGX grades very accurately and has a reasonably good eye for spotting restoration (which I offer FULL COVERAGE for any buyer with my Guarantee).
2. Speed/Cost - In order to sell my collection with as little overhead and as quickly as possible, PGX was the only solution. On average, the cost of grading a comic via PGX is 30% Less than using CGC. Also, in order to keep the cost down, I would have to submit via the 'economy' tier with CGC which takes a total of 10 WEEKS: 2.5 MONTHS from the time I send them out until I receive them back. With PGX it took a total of 3 week from the day they left to the day I received them back.
3. PGX's holder and way of encapsulation is far superior to CGC in every way, IMHO. The book itself is sandwiched between two sheets of plastic, so the book will not shift within the well. It is held in place much like a book stored in a mylar. As opposed to CGC where the book sits in a 'space' that allows the book to move around and potentially get SCS (Shaken Comic Syndrome). I have several books that have suffered from this, with dents/dings on the edges, particularly the tops and bottoms -check yours-. Also, the main plastic shell is MUCH thicker and heavier than CGC's. It does not creak/squeek, will not flex, and is not prone to cracking like CGC's. I have received many New cases directly from CGC that have arrived with small, even large cracks in the holder.
Please take the time to think about all of these benefits when placing your bids. It costs me on average $17.50 to get any 1 book graded and I did this specifically to help buyers with their decision to bid and how much. Sure, you could buy a comic on ebay for less raw, but what are you going to receive? At this point, I have to return about 50% of what I buy raw because I have no idea what I might be getting until I've spent the time and $ to 'give it a whirl'.
My Guarantee! Once you receive the book, if you are not 100% happy with it, you can return the book in the undamaged/unopened PGX holder for a full refund of the purchase price. I put up Hi-Rez pics of the front and back covers of all the books, which is far more than most sellers, so it's only fair that you are responsible for the shipping costs to and from. Also, If you buy a book from me and within 90 days of receipt you have it graded by CGC and it is found to be restored, I will Happily Refund all of your costs. Shipping, Grading, Cost of the Book, everything. All I ask is that the book be sent to me in the undamaged CGC holder with receipts and I will refund your $ immediately upon receipt. I keep hi-res scans of every comic I sell, so there is no confusion as to whether the book was the one I sold or not. I stand behind everything I sell, unlike most other ebay sellers.
Shipping- Flat Rate $10 for Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation -within the US- no matter how many books you win. I will pick up the additional shipping costs if they exceed the $10.
