BRIG.GENERAL JOHN HUNT MORGAN memorial Civil War Confederate cavalry cover. Pictorially postmarked at Old Washington, Ohio on July 23, 2005. Color cachet #2023 by Alvin Eckert #9964, USCS. Cover franked with one cent Civil War commemorative stamp. Confederate General John Hunt Morgan, was born June 1, 1825 in Huntsville, Alabama. His Morgan's Lexington Rifles became know for a series of behind the Union lines calvery raids between 1862 and 1864 when Morgan was killed in a surprise cavalry encounter in Greenville, Tenn on Sept 3, 1864. He was a Mexican War veteran who ran businesses in Lexington, KY before the Civil War. Check out my other items!
