Original 1980's Reissue Poster from Belgium.

Original Year of Release: 1939

Directed by Victor Fleming with Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Leslie Howard, Olivia deHavilland, Hattie McDaniel & Butterfly McQueen.

Size: Approx. 14 x 21 inches (36 x 53 cm.)

 

Condition:  Excellent, Beautiful Color Graphics.  Some very slight wear along the border, "printed in belgium" is printed at the bottom.

BELGIAN POSTER INFORMATION

Belgian posters are primarily found in two sizes. Those from before World War II measure 23" x 32", and are extremely rare. Most of those from after World War II measure roughly 14" x 22" (similar to a U.S. window card). There were also some other Belgian sizes, but they turn up infrequently. Like U.S. window cards, almost all Belgian posters have a blank area at the top, which was almost always filled-in with theater play dates (sometimes there is a paper snipe attached). An unusual curiosity is that during World War II when there were paper shortages, many Belgian posters were printed on the back of old maps! Another unusual aspect of Belgian posters is that many originals have a tax stamp actually glued to the poster. Also it is very important to know that there are many reprints of Belgian posters circulating throughout the hobby! The reprints look very similar to originals, but are on newer paper, and often have "Printed in Belgium" at the bottom in English as opposed to "Imprime En Belgique" which is written at the bottom of authentic Belgian posters (apparently many of the reprints are actually printed in Belgium, although it happened in the 1980s and 1990s!).  These were displayed, usually behind glass in the lobby or the exterior of the theatre to advertize the current film playing or coming attractions.  The color graphics and photos for the film poster are usually most colorful and different from posters made in any other country.
