Little House in the Big Woods Laura Ingalls Wilder HCDJ

This is a very good first printing of the Garth Williams edition of Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder. This is copyright and printed in 1953. The publisher is Harper and Brothers. The jacket price is $2.75. Later printings were priced at $2.95. 

The Wilder series was first published with illustrations by Helen Sewell. Garth Williams was commissioned to redo the illustrations for a uniform edition and spent many months of traveling and research to make the illustrations as evocative and true to life as possible. The results are a masterpiece of children's illustration. While the first printing of this edition are not, of course,true first printings of the series, they are first printings of the well loved and most timeless edition. This is first printing thus.

The book itself is in very good condition with no significant wear and no writing or damage. The pages are white, clean and crisp. The binding is solid. Cover is clean and bright. The bottom edge is lightly worn. The jacket has more wear, with some splits at the top and bottom of the spine. The jacket has the original price of $2.75 and is overall a good, clean example. I would rate the jacket as VG-.
