LIONEL 390-E STANDARD GAUGE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE & TENDER
LOT DESCRIPTION:
As the title says this lot consists of a Lionel 390-E, 2-4-2, Standard Gauge Steam Locomotive with the correct matching Tender. The locomotive has a operating headlight and the pendulum type reversing unit and the tender has the hook couplers. Made in 1930 the loco has been re-wheeled but other than that it is all original Standard Gauge Lionel
DESCRIPTION OF CONDITION: The locomotive and tender are both in very nice shape. The loco casting parts are perfect, no breaks, cracks or chips and no swelling of any of the parts, especially the frame. Piping and all attachment to the boiler are fine as are the front cowcatcher steps. No rust or missing parts, great color, numbers nice and clear. Typical playwear rubs mostly along the orange side stripe.. The tender show a little more wear with more playwear scratches but no cracks, breaks or chips on the shell, lettering nice and clear, and couplers and original wheels in great shape. Again, this is a fine looking set that IMHO I would rate as in very good (tender) to excellent minus (for the loco) condition but look at the pictures and you be the judge.
WORKING CONDITION:
The locomotive motor has been tested and runs fine in both directions however as is often the case the old unreliable pendulum reversing unit leaves much to be desired. It sticks in one position making automatic reversing impossible. I have had some success with dismantling these pendulum units and by cleaning and serving them they sometimes can be coaxed back into service but I did not try it here. If you set the loco on the track and move the pendulum by hand the loco goes fine, moving the lever by hand in the other direction will reverse the locomotive.
PAYMENT OPTIONS:
I accept PayPal, Cks and MOs.
