This is a gorgeous Victorian Eastlake reed organ of solid walnut, made in Michigan by the esteemed Clough & Warren Organ Company. It is a true product of the Victorian era, having been made at the turn of the 20th Century. The Eastlake designs on this piece are exquisite, and show beautifully in the warm walnut wood. We have taken many photos to give you an idea of the work that went into this lovely antique organ cabinet. A popular website devoted to antique reed organs states that "Clough & Warren built some of the most elaborate and expensive pianos and organs in American history".
We do not know if the organ works - we have been enjoying it as a fine antique, rather than as a musical instrument. All of the stops are present. If you have specific questions about the reeds, or parts, we will do our best to inspect the inside of the organ and get back to you. We have included here a photo of the instructions inside the cabinet for removing the reeds and the qualifying tubes. The keys are all present and intact. The ivory appears to be in excellent condition, but could use a thorough cleaning. The organ measures 58 1/2 inches long, 30 1/2 inches deep, and stands 51 1/2 inches high.
As part of this auction we are including the book, "Restoring and Collecting Antique Reed Organs" by Horton Presley.
