Antique 1900 RR Mine and Coke Works Iron Ends

This is a pair of Antique 1900 Mine and Coke Works Iron Ends which came out of a rural Pennsylvania estate and they are in good looking and in good working condition. Molded into one side of each is ''W.S.Ü S., SpÜ#39;FÜ#39;ld Mass, Made in U.S.A.'' and on the other side ''Superior No.1'' which refers to the Superior No.1 Mine and Coke Works (ca. 1900-1910) on the Brandenville High Trestle Branch of the PRR, a shaft entry mine which is in the area of the Latrobe Elks golf course near the Village of Superior in Derry Twp., Pa. One can speculate that these early iron ends were used to hold items in place: a 1/2''x1/2'' rod would have been placed in the notches at the top of the ends and the springs placed on top of the rod to hold it in place and to wedge items together while being welded or worked on. They have a great early look whether you use them for display or for other creative purpose. Each measures 3-1/4''x4-1/4''x4-3/8,'' together they weigh 7 pounds and the high bidder will win the pair.
