SOFA SIZE LAGOON SCENE

Roy McLendon has been painting since the mid 1950's and like most of the Highwaymen he is self taught. McLendon was born in Pelham, Georgia and moved to Florida at the age of 15. McLendon finally settled in Gifford. He now resides in Cocoa, Florida where he has a studio on Forrest Ave. Mr. McLendon is still actively painting today.

This painting appears to be a late afternoon or early evening lagoon scene. A small sailboat is in the back being tossed by small gentle waves. The foreground of this painting is dominated by a center palm with three more palms to the right and a small one lower down the back by the dock/pier that juts out into the water. Light is reflecting off the water in the background and dense foliage commands the right side of the painting. The lagoon fades out in the distance to the left side of the painting. Very nice work.

This painting was painted in early 1971 according to the original owner. This painting has been displayed in his smoke free home since he originally bought it. The painting is oil on Upson and is a great example of Mr. McLendons style.

I must be getting senile or something. In the first paragraph of the description I have R. McLendon confused with R. Lewis. It is Mr. Lewis that has the shop in Cocoa, Fl.
Mr. McLendon no longer paints due to failing eyesight. I apologize for the error and I can assure you that it will not happen again. Sorry if this caused any inconvenience.
