Philadelphia (PA.): Charles T. Peterson. 1850." A 1 1/2" by 6 1/2" by 10" 534 plus pages in cloth bound hard covers, published especially for American ladies and packed with all of their interests. Fashions, prose and poetry, fine engravings, an Editor's Table, Tables of Contents, and much more. There are twelve full page steel engraved "Les Modes Parisiennes" fashion plates, five hand colored and seven in black and white, with descriptive texts describing evening, ball, opera, dinner, walking, carriage, promenade, and equestrian dresses, bonnets and caps, shawls and mantelets, and other period accessories. A beautiful color printed title page, a December engraving of St. Nicholas, work table articles to make gent's braces, a gold coin purse, hairwork, and netting projects, terrific articles such as "Pilgrimages To American Shrines" that include Mt. Vernon and Bunker Hill, and much more. The names of D. J., L. H., and Mrs. S. H. Noyes all appear penciled inside, one next to a reference to "Hyde Park (Vt.?)." In good sound as found condition, with normal cover wear, some age foxing spots, tiny age flaws and marks, one spotted engraving, and just a few small page tears.
